Who am I?

I'm Erick Marquez, Data Engineer and a Jack Of All Trades Software Engineer

A data engineer, a jack of all trades when it comes to software engineering and a certified AWS Solutions Architect. Passionate about software development , new technologies and knowledge in general.

I've been a developer professionally for 11+ years, working mainly with backend languages like python and php, on the frontend with javascript along with vue and react/preact, and with relational databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite. With a current focus on data, working with Apache Airflow, Python, Pandas, Spark (PySpark), Amazon S3, AWS Athena, AWS Batch, AWS EMR and Docker to architect and orchestrate ETL jobs and data lakes.

But I can't stop learning new stuff and feeling excited about upcoming or recent technologies. I've worked and played with a lot of technologies and development stacks, from ruby on rails to the MEAN stack and even Android, iOS and Hybrid apps development.

Other stuff I like

Board Games I like to play board games, it was my favorite activity before the pandemic. I have a small but solid collection.

Video Games While not a heavy gamer as I used to, some times comes a new game that grabs my attention. I'm specially fond of games with great writting.

Podcasts and music Every activity that doesn't require much thinking just becomes 10x better by listening to some of my favorite podcasts or playlists.

Dogs Dogs just makes everything in life better. Specially as a remote worker, they are the best coworkers to have around. Except when they bark non-stop during meetings.

Anime and manga Oh? You're approaching me?

Comic books Batman, Deadpool, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. are some of my favorite characters and stories.

Drawing I recently pick on drawing, using an apple pencil and an iPad. I don't have the best skills but I find it's a very rewarding activity for my poorly treated artist side of my brain.

Movies and series It's my favorite activity to do with my partner. I don't think I have a genre I don't like. I wish Tarantino would make more movies.
